Halston Mendes Dias is a sculptor and wood carving artist that creates awesome wood carvings and carved wood wall art works. Graduated in Psychology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, born in Belo Horizonte-MG-Brazil, Halston, from very small, was dubbed "Ton" by relatives, simplified and easiest way to identify it due to different name.
The brazilian sculptor develops awesome and amazing wooden sculptures and wooden carving in great woods. Various curves and shapes arise from the wood carving artist activity. The Ton Dias handmade guitars create the amazing possibility of merge art and lutherie with music, dimensions that have the power to provide deep impact on human being.
How this wood carving artist beggan his journey in world of wood sculpture works?
From where did come the knowledge and know-how to implement these wooden art works?
The answer to these questions is a mistery even to the sculptor. However, I believe that if there was a beginning, it had connection with a joke, a gift.
Ton works with luthiery (construction of musical instruments) Since 2002.
A good and extensive knowledge of woodwork could absorb over that time.
One day, he decided to make a gift to his eldest nephew. He saw a picture of a tribal tattoo dragon and believed, does not know why, that he could built it on a piece of wood (a schism that Ton still doesn´t understand where it came from). As in a game, he took the design to try to see what would, and began trying, even without much ambition to succeed. Like a kind of magic, a creation was borning, slowly and gradually, something never ever he imaginated to be able to do. It was there a kind of dragon wood carving.
After that, no one knows why, the sculptor began to be able to see what you should do in wood to let it carved with a form. Thereafter, the whole process was going on with him, allowing Ton to get to create their
work.
The wood carving artist was, slowly and gradually, learning to get see some features, and all the knowledge acquaired from lutherie was helping all the way.
Never did any course of fine arts or wooden wall art classes. Nevertheless, even he considering yourself a learner, Ton can develop sculptural and wood carving works, with the most diverse forms, in various woods.
